ZANZIBAR: OUTGOING British High Commissioner to Tanzania, Ambassador David Concar, bid farewell to President Hussein Ali Mwinyi yesterday after completing his tenure.
During a meeting at State House, Ambassador Concar praised the people of Zanzibar for their impressive progress in achieving development goals.
Mr Concar said that the UK’s commitment to continue supporting Zanzibar has been strengthened by the Isles’ current leadership, which is effectively investing in infrastructure and social services to benefit the public and boost the economy through tourism.
He also commended Dr Mwinyi and the people of Zanzibar for upholding the Government of National Unity (GNU), peace and political stability essential foundations for advancing the country’s development.
Dr Mwinyi noted that Zanzibar and the UK have strengthened their relationship throughout Mr Concar’s tenure.
He expressed hope that the new high commissioner will continue to uphold and enhance the strong partnership between the two sides.

Meanwhile, Dr Mwinyi met with Qatar’s Ambassador to Tanzania, Sheikh Fahad Rashid, who delivered a special message from the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani.
The message included an invitation for President Mwinyi to visit Qatar later this year.
Ambassador Fahad also praised Dr Mwinyi and the people of Zanzibar for their significant progress in achieving development goals, including the preparations for AFCON 2027.
He assured that Qatar would support Zanzibar in its preparations, including enhancing services and addressing other needs for the tournament.
