TABORA: Nzega Town Council Hospital has received a new ambulance to provide emergency medical services to patients suffering from various ailments and residents of the town in general.
This is the second ambulance of its kind to be provided by the government within a period of six months to facilitate healthcare services for emergency patients.
The other ambulance of the same type was recently donated and began official operation in January of this year.
Speaking during the handover ceremony of the Landcruiser hardtop ambulance at the hospital, Acting Chief Medical Officer of Nzega Town Council, Dr Anna Chaduo, thanked the government for saying that her hospital will now be able to transport critical patients from health centers to the town hospital and other referral hospitals within and outside the Tabora region.
“Every month our hospital transports an average of sixteen (16) patients who need referral services to referral hospitals within and outside the Tabora Region and therefore, the arrival of this ambulance will ensure that patients are transported to receive such treatment without delay as an important way to strengthen healthcare services,” she said.
Dr Chaduo explained that patients with referral treatment needs are frequently transported to Kitete and Nkinga hospitals, both located within the Tabora Region, and also to other referral hospitals such as Bugando Hospital in Mwanza City and Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam City.
The Acting Chief Medical Officer further explained that her hospital receives and serves between 550 and 700 patients per day, some of whom are referred from the two health centers located in Nzega town, some of whom are forced to use the ambulance due to their condition.
“The arrival of this ambulance will enable maternity services, outpatients (OPD) and emergency patients to receive services very quickly. We are very grateful to the President of Tanzania for seeing our hospital and giving us this ambulance,” she said.
Handing over the ambulance on behalf of Nzega Town Member of Parliament Hon. Hussein Bashe who is also the Minister of Agriculture, the MP’s secretary Mr. Salim Abdulkadri congratulated the hospital staff under the strong leadership of the Executive Director Mr. Shomary Mndolwa for ensuring that the residents of the constituency receive good medical services.
Mr. Abdulkadri called on the Nzega town council to use the ambulance to add momentum to performance so that the people have good health that will enable them to carry out various development activities.
