NSSF Mwanza hotel nears completion with Radisson support

MWANZA: THE National Social Security Fund’s (NSSF) flagship five-star hotel in Mwanza is nearing completion, with global hospitality brand Radisson poised to take over operations.

Mwanza Regional Commissioner Said Mtanda inspected the ongoing construction of the Capri Point property over the weekend, praising the project’s progress and its potential impact on the regional economy.

During the visit, Mtanda toured a sample guest room built to showcase the design standard for the hotel’s 183 rooms—all of which are being constructed to premium specifications.

“I am impressed with the progress of the construction. Upon completion, this hotel will provide Mwanza with world-class infrastructure, capable of hosting both national and international visitors,” said Mr Mtanda.

He said NSSF’s strategic investment reflects a strong commitment to quality, noting the high standards demonstrated by both the contractor and the hotel operator.

“Once operational, the hotel will significantly boost the economy of the Lake Zone, enhance the tourism sector and generate extensive employment opportunities for local citizens,” he said.

Mr Mtanda added that, along with other flagship infrastructure projects such as the Mwanza International Airport, the MV Mwanza ship and the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR), the hotel would strengthen Mwanza’s position as a key investment and tourism destination.

The Mwanza Region currently contributes 7.2 per cent to the national GDP and projected to rise to 10 per cent once transformative projects, including the hotel, come online.

He said high-standard accommodation is critical for fast-growing cities like Mwanza, helping attract tourists and catalyse broader economic activity.

NSSF’s Director of Planning, Investment and Projects, Gabriel Silayo, said the decision to invest in a high-end hotel followed extensive feasibility studies and was aimed at delivering long-term value for the Fund’s members and the wider economy.

“We undertook rigorous research before commencing this project. We are confident in its success. With Radisson on board— an operator with a global portfolio of over 12,000 hotels, including more than 98 across Africa—we believe this investment is in highly capable hands,” said Mr Silayo.

Project Manager Gehan Nel, from South Africa, said the project was being executed to international standards and that its lakeside location would serve as a key attraction for both domestic and international guests.

He said the collaboration between NSSF and Radisson ensured the project would be delivered efficiently and on schedule.

This investment aligns with NSSF’s core mandate to safeguard and grow members’ contributions through commercially viable and strategic ventures
