No tolerance for poll violence – Police warn
KILIMANJARO: THE Tanzania Police Force has declared zero tolerance for any individuals or groups that may attempt to incite or engage in acts of violence during the upcoming General Elections scheduled for later this year.
The firm warning was issued by the Head of Operations and Training in the Tanzania Police Force, Commissioner of Police (CP) Awadhi Juma Haji, over the weekend while officiating the closing ceremony of a junior leadership training for sergeants held at the Tanzania Police School (TPS) in Moshi, Kilimanjaro Region.
CP Haji assured the public that the police force is fully prepared to guarantee peace, order and fairness throughout the entire electoral process—from campaigns to election day and the post-election period.
“The police force will not tolerate any person or group that seeks to disrupt the elections— whether during the campaign period, on election day, or after the polls. We will discharge our duty to take appropriate action in accordance with the law against those involved,” he stressed.
He urged the newly trained police officers to join hands with their colleagues across the country in safeguarding citizens and their properties so that the public can freely exercise their democratic rights to vote or be elected.
CP Haji also encouraged the graduates to execute their duties ethically and professionally, highlighting the importance of road safety enforcement as part of their responsibilities.

“You must carry out your duties with discipline and professionalism, especially by implementing strategies to reduce and eliminate road accidents,” he said.
The police operations chief took the opportunity to commend the sixth-phase government under President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for its commitment to strengthening the police force.
He said the government’s continued investment in the sector has enhanced officers’ working conditions and operational efficiency.
“The sixth-phase government has allocated and continues to allocate significant funds to improve the police force. As a result, we are now executing our responsibilities with greater professionalism,” CP Haji noted.
Presenting the training report, TPS-Moshi Commandant, Senior Assistant Commissioner of Police (SACP) Ramadhan Mungi, said that 2,068 out of 2,078 students successfully completed the junior leadership course, which began in March this year.
He reported that nine trainees were dismissed for breaching training regulations, including poor attendance. Sadly, one trainee died in an accident during the training period.
