NMB hailed for supporting economic activities

DAR ES SALAAM: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has commended NMB Bank for supporting various socio-economic initiatives in the country, saying that the bank’s initiatives complement the government’s efforts to enhance social service delivery.

“The bank through its Corporate Social Investment (CSI) has been at the forefront of investing in key sectors that include education, health, water and Small and Medium Enterprises (SMEs),” he said.

PM Majaliwa was speaking during an Iftar organised by the bank in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday evening that brought together over 1000 stakeholders, including the bank’s customers who are observing the holy month of Ramadan, government leaders, orphaned and abandoned children.

He said the Iftar organised by the bank is a sign of giving back to communities, especially during the holy month of Ramadan. Apart from Iftar, the bank has gone the extra mile to donate necessities, including food and non-food items to three orphanage centres including Umrah, Al-azam and Tanzania Kwanza.

He added, “This act of compassion aims to bring smiles to the faces of the orphaned and abandoned children and provide them with much-needed support,” Mr Majaliwa urged other companies to emulate NMB to bring smiles to the faces of the young orphans and provide them with much-needed support.

He tasked local government and municipal councils to identify orphaned and abandoned children and coordinate their basic needs.

“These children are the leaders of the next generation. Providing their necessities should be a prerequisite,” he emphasised.

Earlier, the NMB Chief Financial Officer, Juma Kimori said the bank has a long-time tradition of honouring and celebrating the holy month of Ramadan.

“NMB through its ‘Close to you’ philosophy cares for the community and this Iftar and donation reflects our commitment to making a positive impact in the community,” he said.

On his part, the NMB Bank Board Chairman, Dr Edwin Mhede said the month of Ramadan should be used to nurture a generation of people who have fear for God.
