DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Identification Authority (NIDA) has enhanced its customer service centre to better serve Tanzanians seeking identification cards and other services.
This initiative aims to eliminate unnecessary visits to district and regional offices.
Speaking in Dar es Salaam on Wednesday, NIDA’s Spokesperson and Head of Government Communications Unit, Mr Geofrey Tengeneza, outlined several measures the authority has implemented to improve its call centre services in response to the growing demand for NIDA numbers and identification cards.
“These improvements include the digitisation of services and an increase in the number of service providers, allowing us to assist a larger number of people more effectively,” he said.
As a result of these enhancements, Mr Tengeneza announced that all previous customer phone numbers will no longer be in use after October 28. The new contact number will be 0232210500, which is a TTCL network line.
“Customers can use this number to inquire about various matters, such as checking the status of their identification cards and their ID numbers,” he added.

According to Tengeneza, these improvements coincide with Customer Service Week and he promised further enhancements in service delivery.
In addition to upgrades at the customer service centre, Mr Tengeneza encouraged citizens to utilise NIDA’s social media platforms for accessing various services.
“We take pride in reaching more citizens through social media and with the digital improvements at our service centre, we expect to extend our reach to even more people, including those in rural areas,” he said.
He noted that inquiries would receive immediate responses, with more complex questions being addressed by department heads.
As of August, this year, NIDA has successfully processed 21.5 million identification cards for eligible applicants, of which 20.7 million have been distributed and 19.5 million have reached citizens aged 18 and above.
