NIDA devices simple IDs collection method

DAR ES SALAAM: THE National Identification Authority (NIDA) has devised a new simplified method of locating places where the national Identification (ID) cards are found and collected.

According to the authority, so far, a total of 24,495,804 citizens have been registered and 19,370,666 IDs produced.

A statement issued by the authority on Saturday indicated that it has come up with the new system to simplify collection of the IDs where people can now locate the place where they can collect their IDs easily.

The authority said that the new system enables people who had not collected their IDs and those who were issued with national identification numbers to collect their IDs from NIDA designated offices.

“The list of names of all citizens whose national identification cards are printed has been uploaded on authority’s website,” the statement read in parts.

The statement said after visiting the NIDA’s website, a person has to go on the national identification cards dashboard then click on ‘Know Where Your ID Is’ that is written in Kiswahili “ Fahamu Mahali Kitambulisho Chako Kilipo.”

The statement added that thereafter a page that shows the regions will open, a step that will now require a person to choose the region and then a district they had registered, before further going down to the village/street they were living when they registered for the ID.

“A person who has not collected their IDs can find out by visiting the authority’s website that will help to locate the village or street where their ID cards are available,” the statement further read in part.

The authority encouraged the citizens to collect their IDs because after one month all uncollected IDs will be returned to NIDA district offices.

Speaking yesterday during an exclusive interview with ‘Sunday News’, NIDA Head of Communication Unit , Mr Geofrey Tengeneza said that the authority decided to come up with a simplified method to enable citizens collect their IDs fast and in an easier way.

Mr Tengeneza revealed that as of January 7 this year, the authority had managed to print more than 19 million of cards equivalent to 93.2 per cent of qualified citizens who were issued with National Identification Number (NIN).

Tabling budget estimates for the Ministry of Home Affairs, the Minister Hamad Masauni said in 2023/2024 financial year, the government will continue with registration and identification of persons in all districts and regions in the country in which, a total of 1,597,827 people are expected to be registered.

The minister further detailed that between July 2022 and May last year, NIDA had produced 623,247 identification numbers and 1,059,716 IDs, thus making a total of 20,126,693 of identification numbers and 12,097,933 IDs which had been so far produced since the commencement of the exercise in 2012.

He said the government would continue with efforts to make sure that all citizens with identification numbers are provided with IDs.

Masauni explained that until last May, NIDA had received a total of 28bn/- enabling it to open Letter of Credit worth 42.5bn/- for the purchase of IDs printing materials, noting that other procurement procedures were underway.

“The purchase of these materials will enable all citizens who have been registered to be provided with IDs” he was quoted as saying during the budget meeting in Dodoma.

The minister commended the sixth phase government under the administration of President Samia Suluhu Hassan for clearing the long-term debt worth 17.5bn/- and revive the contractual relationship with the contractor.
