COAST REGION: MINISTRY of Communications and Information Technology has revealed that a total of 108 districts in the country have been reached with the National Information and Communication Technology Backbone (NICTBB) services, helping in simplifying internet services availability especially in village areas.
Ministry’s Deputy Minister Eng Maryprisca Mahundi, made the revelations during her one-day tour to inspect the NICTBB centres in Kibaha Town District and Chalinze Council in Bagamoyo District, Coast Region on Tuesday.
She explained that the government through Tanzania Telecommunications Company Limited (TTCL) has succeeded to distribute communication infrastructures in 108 districts out of 139 districts which were targeted and that the remaining 31 districts will be reached by June this year.
Eng Mahundi said that the construction of the national communications backbone is a very important and great work which is being done by the government.
She took to thank the government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for being ready to allocate funds which has enabled the 108 districts to be connected with communications.
“The government’s aim is to make Tanzania a digital country and be able to provide good data communication network to other countries in East Africa and SADC countries, she said.
“We are also expecting to reach out to Congo as well as other countries in the World especially in Asia and Europe with the services as we are expanding”, she disclosed.
The deputy minister urged TTCL administration to make sure that security services are being strengthened at all national communications backbone centres to protect them from all sabotage acts.

Coast Regional TTCL Manager Randy Nyangusi said that security at all NICTBB centres in the region has been strengthened and that more efforts were being done to ensure safety of the centres.
“The National Information and Communications Backbone is very important to our country and especially in the economy issues.
In realising that, we are doing everything in our power to make sure that all its infrastructures are well protected against all evil acts”, he emphasised.
