NGOs asked to embrace self-reliance, minimize dependence

DODOMA: THE Tanzanian government has directed non-government organizations to increase to enhance self-reliance and shrug off donor-dependence as the donors’ policy has changed globally.

The call insists on the NGOs to develop alternative sources of income and develop services and projects using resources available in their areas.

This was stated today by the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Community Development, Gender, Women and Special Groups, Dr. John Jingu, while speaking at the Non-Governmental Organizations Conference, which is continuing for the second day in Dodoma.

Dr. Jingu said that these organizations are responsible for bringing about economic, intellectual, and developmental changes in society beyond the implementation of their various projects.

“Non-Governmental Organizations are legally registered to provide services and education in different fields to the community, so you should realize that the agenda for sustainable development in the Nation includes being agents of positive change in society,” said Dr. Jungu.

He also explained that these organizations should implement sustainable production projects and eliminate dependence on donors, because currently, the policies of Western countries have changed.

“Be agents of positive change in society in the implementation of various projects in society,” he emphasized.
