Ngorongoro Crater tops tourist attractions in Africa

ARUSHA: THE Ngorongoro Crater, one of Tanzania’s most iconic natural wonders, has earned a spot among the top tourist attractions in Africa for 2025, according to the prestigious Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice – Best of the Best Awards.
The Crater ranked sixth on the list of Africa’s leading attractions, placing it within the top one per cent of destinations globally based on authentic traveller reviews.
The accolade reflects the unmatched appeal of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area and its ability to deliver memorable experiences to visitors from around the world.
Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) Conservation Commissioner Abdul-Razaq Badru over the weekend expressed pride in the recognition, describing it as a milestone that underscores both Tanzania’s tourism potential and its commitment to responsible conservation.

“This is a great honor for Ngorongoro to be listed among the most loved destinations in the world,” Mr Badru said in a statement. “It demonstrates that Ngorongoro remains one of Africa’s top tourism sites and continues to capture the hearts of travellers.
This recognition highlights the strength of community engagement and the authentic connection travellers feel with Ngorongoro.” The Tripadvisor Travellers’ Choice Awards are determined by detailed feedback and genuine experiences shared by millions of travellers worldwide over a 12-month period.
This makes the award particularly significant, as it is based on real visitor experiences rather than industry rankings. Ms Kristen Dalton, President of Tripadvisor, congratulated Tanzania on the achievement, noting that such recognition places Ngorongoro among the world’s most exceptional destinations.
“Congratulations to the Ngorongoro Crater for being recognised in Tripadvisor’s 2025 Travellers’ Choice Best of the Best Awards,” she said.
“Earning a place in the top tier of global destinations reflects the outstanding experiences you provide visitors, so much so that they took the time to share their praise online. Travellers rely on Tripadvisor’s Best of the Best lists to help them choose where to go, what to eat and what to do.
We hope this recognition continues to bring commercial benefits to Ngorongoro throughout 2025 and beyond.” The Ngorongoro Crater, a UNESCO World Heritage Site, is celebrated not only for its breathtaking geological features but also as a haven for wildlife and cultural heritage.
