Ng’itu, Chande elected to TWFA leadership

KILIMANJARO: VETERAN journalists, Somoe Ng’itu and Zena Chande have been elected to lead the Tanzania Women’s Football Association (TWFA) following the General Election held in Kilimanjaro yesterday.

Somoe Ng’itu, a writer for Nipashe newspaper, has been elected Chairperson of TWFA, while Chande, a senior writer for HabariLEO newspaper, will join the General Meeting of the Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) as a member.

Somoe secured 37 votes, defeating Amina Karuma, who received 14 votes. Chande won with 34 votes, surpassing Fatuma Seleman, who garnered nine votes and Veronica Samo, who received eight votes.

Previously, Ng’itu served as the General Secretary of the association and Chande successfully defended her position as a member.

In the Executive Committee elections, Irene Ishengoma and Ndinagwe Sungura were elected unopposed after Mwanaheri Kalolo’s resignation on the election day.

Following her election,  Ng’itu appointed Beatrice Mgaya as her Vice-Chairperson and Hamisa Katambi as a member of the TWFA Executive Committee.

Vice-Chairperson of the Election Committee, Benjamin Kalume, urged the newly elected leaders to work collaboratively and move forward now that the election is concluded.

Ng’itu expressed her gratitude to the delegates for their support and promised to work together to advance women’s football in Tanzania.
