New 528.9m/- secondary school in Kibaha to open in January

KIBAHA: STUDENTS and youths in Kibaha District Council, Coast Region are set to benefit from a new secondary school, Mwakamo Ruvu, located in Minazi Mikinda village, built at a cost of 528.9m/- by the government.
According to the District Executive Director (DED), Ms Regina Bieda, the school will offer both secondary education and vocational training, aligning with the government’s plan to equip youth with essential skills for the future.
“Residents are grateful to have this school in their area, as it provides an opportunity for their children to access formal education alongside vocational training. They are confident that upon graduation, their children will have the skills needed to secure employment and earn a living,” she said.
The District Secondary School Education Officer, Ms Khadija Rajab, said the school is expected to start receiving students in January 2026, with preparations for teachers and teaching equipment progressing smoothly.
“Preparations for the school’s opening and the start of the academic year in January are going well,” she noted.

District Commissioner Mr Simon Nickson praised the government’s efforts to improve the education sector in the area through the provision of teachers, construction of infrastructure, and enhancement of the learning environment.
“Each year, about 1,500 to 2,000 students join secondary education in this council. The government has succeeded in building more classrooms, recruiting additional teachers, and improving school facilities to accommodate the growing number of students,” he explained.
