NEMC enhances cooperation with environmental stakeholders at COP30

BELEM: The National Environment Management Council (NEMC) has been advised to use the 30th Conference as a platform to secure project funding opportunities that will strengthen the implementation of environmental pillars within the National 2050 Vision.
NEMC is participating in the 30th Conference of the Parties (COP-30) to the United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change (UNFCCC) in Bélem, Brazil, from November 3, 2025, and is scheduled to conclude tomorrow, November 21, 2025.
Leading the NEMC delegation at the conference, the Chairman of the Board of Directors, Engineer Mwanasha Tumbo, urged council staff to make the most of the platform to secure project funding opportunities that will strengthen the implementation of environmental pillars within the National 2050 Vision.

Vice Chairman, Lawyer Alex Mgongolwa, also encouraged the NEMC team to actively collaborate with other stakeholders.
Furthermore, NEMC Director General, Dr. Immaculate Semesi, led the delegation in participating in various international diplomatic meetings aimed at enhancing cooperation with stakeholders in the environmental sector.

One of the key meetings was a bilateral discussion with the African Development Bank (AfDB), which reviewed a climate change project submitted by NEMC and approved by the bank. The project, valued at USD 15 million, aims to address climate change challenges in the coastal regions, including Dar es Salaam, Pwani, and Pemba.
Dr. Semesi also met with the Secretariat of the Adaptation Fund (AF), encouraging them to complete the reaccreditation process for NEMC and approve new projects worth a total of USD 35 million. The Adaptation Fund confirmed that the reaccreditation procedures are expected to be completed within a few weeks before the end of the year.
Regarding ongoing projects, the Adaptation Fund has also approved annual reports for the SWAHAT and Bunda projects managed by NEMC and released approximately USD 400,000 to ensure their full implementation.
