NECTA releases 2024 Form Four results

DAR ES SALAAM: The National Examinations Council of Tanzania (NECTA) has reported a significant improvement in the Form Four national assessment results, with the pass rate climbing to 92.37 percent in 2024, up by 3percent from the 89.3 percent recorded in 2023.
Announcing the results in Dar es Salaam on Thursday, NECTA’s Executive Secretary, Dr. Said Mohamed, stated that 477,262 candidates out of 516,695 successfully passed with Divisions I, II, III, and IV.
Breaking down the results, Dr. Mohamed revealed that girls accounted for 52 percent of those who passed, equivalent to 249,078 candidates, while boys comprised 48percent, representing 228,184 candidates.
He also highlighted an improvement in the quality of passes, with the number of candidates attaining Divisions I–III rising to 221, 953, (43 percent) of all candidates.

This marks an increase from 2023, when 197,426 candidates (37.4perecnt) achieved similar grades.
“In this year’s results, 45,838 candidates achieved Division I, 75,863 obtained Division II, and 100,252 secured Division III,” Dr. Mohamed stated, adding that the quality of results has improved by 5.6 percent.

Additionally, Dr Mohamed said the number of candidates scoring Division IV and zero has also decreased, signaling an overall enhancement in academic performance.
In a separate development, Dr. Mohamed announced that 459 candidates whose results had been withheld due to various challenges, including health issues, will be allowed to retake their exams in 2025.
Meanwhile, Necta canceled the results of 67 candidates for misconduct, including five who wrote offensive language in their exam scripts.
“Ethical conduct is essential in examinations. Writing insults or engaging in unethical behavior is unacceptable, and such actions will not be tolerated,” Dr. Mohamed emphasized.
