NCAA directed to improve infrastructure in tourist attractions

ARUSHA: MINISTER for Natural Resources and Tourism Dr Pindi Chana has directed the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) to improve infrastructure in tourist attractions to provide better services to tourists visiting the sites, especially this holiday season.

She said that the authority should ensure that roads and bridges are accessible at all times, along with other essential services, to strengthen tourism activities in the areas.

Dr Chana made the remarks during the swearing in ceremony and the conferment of military rank to the new Conservation Commissioner of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority, CC Dr Elirehema Doriye, held recently at the NCAA headquarters.

“We must continue to improve our reserves, including infrastructure such as roads, bridges and water supply, to ensure that tourists receive quality services. This should be among your key agendas as we approach Christmas and New Year celebrations,” she said.

Dr Chana also instructed NCAA to expand the scope of tourism by developing plans to improve attractions such as Olduvai Gorge, Amboni Caves, Mbozi Meteorite, Engaruka Ruins and Mumba Rock Shelter to attract more tourists to the historical sites.

She highlighted that the Ngorongoro Conservation Area is one of the country’s most important sites, stressing the need for the authority to continue managing the area effectively.

Dr Chana also commended CC Dr Elirehema Doriye on his appointment, urging him to demonstrate outstanding performance for the benefit of all Tanzanians.

“We have high hopes that you will continue to utilize your talents to ensure significant achievements in this authority, especially at a time when the tourism sector continues to thrive globally. In your short time in office, we have already seen remarkable progress showcasing your capabilities,” said Dr Chana.

She highlighted Dr Doriye’s achievements, including efficient revenue management, noting that between July and November this year, the authority collected 138.6 bn/-  and recorded approximately 551,000 international tourists and 200,001 domestic tourists.

Dr Chana also commended Dr Doriye’s efforts to strengthen ICT systems and maintain good employee relations, urging him to build on these successes.

On his part, the new Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority (NCAA) Conservation Commissioner Dr Elirehema Doriye reaffirmed his commitment to ensuring that the tourism sector continues to grow and significantly contribute to the national economy.

He said that the authority will continue improving infrastructure, services and the quality of attractions in the Ngorongoro Conservation Area.

He also pledged to continue enhancing collaboration within the organization and with communities to implement strategic plans.

Dr Doriye also expressed his gratitude to the President Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan for appointing him to the position, promising to serve with utmost dedication.

“My mission is to promote sustainable conservation of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area. I will ensure that natural and historical resources are protected from destruction while increasing the use of technology in operations,” said Dr Doriye.

Moreover, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Permanent Secretary Dr Hassan Abbasi, pledged the ministry’s full support to ensure NCAA’s plans and goals are achieved.

The event was also attended by Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Deputy Minister, Mr Dunstan Kitandula, representatives from Arusha Regional Commissioner’s Office, Ministry of Natural Resources and Tourism Deputy permanent secretaries, NCAA Board Chairman, retired General Venance Mabeyo, District Commissioners of Karatu and Ngorongoro, CCM party leaders from the districts, NCAA board members, management staff, and officers of the Ngorongoro Conservation Area Authority.
