NBC unveils desk for Lake Zone sectors

MWANZA: THE National Bank of Commerce (NBC) is sharpening its corporate banking strategy in the Lake Zone, reaffirming its commitment to key economic sectors through proactive client engagement and tailored financial solutions.
In a move to deepen its role as a strategic business partner, the bank hosted a high-level dinner meeting in Mwanza, bringing together senior representatives from leading institutions and businesses in the region. The objective: to explore collaborative opportunities, unveil sector-specific banking solutions, and introduce a dedicated service desk for stakeholders in the mining, agriculture, and fisheries industries.
Present at the engagement were major NBC clients and top executives, including the bank’s Director of Corporate Banking Mr Elvis Ndunguru, and Head of Strategy Mr Msafiri Shayo, who both emphasized the financial institution’s evolving role in driving sectoral growth.
“We are committed to walking alongside Tanzania’s most critical sectors,” said Mr Ndunguru. “Our new specialized desk is not just a service point, it is a strategic hub designed to provide sector-aligned financial expertise and responsive banking solutions.”
NBC’s latest initiative aligns with its broader corporate banking strategy, which aims to combine client feedback with deep industry insight to deliver highly relevant financial products and services. The bank is also deploying expert teams equipped to address sector-specific financial needs and business challenges.
Mr Ndunguru noted that ongoing client engagement remains central to the bank’s approach, particularly in today’s fast-changing financial environment. “We are not just a bank. We are a partner in growth. Continuous dialogue with our clients enables us to innovate and remain adaptive to their needs,” he said.
Among the flagship offerings discussed was NBC Connect, the bank’s digital platform tailored for institutional and large corporate clients. The platform streamlines complex banking operations, enhances transaction security, and simplifies both local and international payments.
Clients at the event praised NBC Connect’s impact on operational efficiency. “NBC Connect has truly transformed the way we manage our transactions,” noted Ms. Nyanjige Ngambeki of Mwanza Urban Water Supply and Sanitation Authority (MWAUWASA). “It has made both domestic and international payments seamless and secure.”
Echoing the sentiment, Mr Rajab Kinande, Regional Manager for the Public Service Social Security Fund (PSSSF), highlighted the platform’s contribution to improved service delivery. “The user experience is exceptional. It is a game changer for institutions like ours.”
NBC also emphasized its long-term strategic pillars, including delivering innovative financial services, embracing digital transformation, and strengthening business ecosystems through collaboration. Additionally, the bank continues to uphold its corporate social responsibility focus, prioritizing education, healthcare, and environmental sustainability.
By establishing a dedicated desk for mining, agriculture, and fisheries, NBC is signaling a refined approach moving from general corporate banking to smart, sector-driven banking.
“Our aim is not just to serve businesses, but to empower them through customized financial solutions, expert guidance, and a shared vision for national economic growth,” Mr Ndunguru added.
As Tanzania’s economic landscape continues to evolve, NBC positions itself as not merely a financial institution, but as a proactive partner in business transformation and national development.
