National Nutrition Day goes nationwide

DODOMA: THE commemoration of the National Nutrition Day has begun today, November 17, 2025, and will climax on November 21, in the Ruvuma region, the Ministry of Health announced.
According to the ministry, the commemoration usually takes place annually on October 29 or 30 to educate society on proper nutrition and the economic and social impacts of malnutrition.
This year, the commemoration is expected to take place in all regions of mainland Tanzania.
A statement issued by the ministry on Monday in Dodoma encouraged citizens to participate in the commemorations to gain nutrition education and promote healthy eating within their families.

This year’s theme says “Health is your capital,” which emphasizes proper eating as an essential pillar for a healthy society, a strong workforce, as well as economic and social prosperity.
“These commemorations highlight the importance of proper nutrition in physical and mental growth, protection against non-communicable diseases such as diabetes, hypertension, heart disease, and stroke, and reducing stunting in children under the age of five,” the ministry stated.
Moreover, the ministry advised citizens to consume a variety of locally available foods daily, especially vegetables, fruits, animal-based foods, and nutrient-fortified foods to improve health and nutritional status.
“It is also important to reduce foods high in fats, sugar, and salt, and to engage in exercise and physical activity to manage body weight and prevent non-communicable diseases,” the ministry said.
