Nanyumbu farmers secure 10bn/- loans
MTWARA: THE CRDB Bank has issued 10bn/- in loans to farmers in Nanyumbu District, Mtwara Region, the Bank’s Director of Retail Banking Mr Bonaventure Paul has said. Mr Paul made the revelation here over the weekend during an event to open a new branch to bring the bank’s services closer to people.
“CRDB bank offers a veriety of services to customers, and one among them is issuing loans to farmers with the aim to support production in agriculture which is the backbone of the country’s economy,” he said.
Officiating at the event, Mtwara Regional Commissioner Colonel Ahmed Abbas thanked the management of the bank for opening a new branch in Nanyumbu, saying the move will help expand provision of financial services to the farmers particularly to small farmers in the region.
“On behalf of the government, I thank the management of CRDB Bank for seeing the importance of opening more branches in Mtwara Region, the newly opened branch here in Nanyumbu brings to six a total number of branches operated by CRDB in the region,” he said.
Col Abbas said the branches help people of Mtwara, mostly farmers, understand more about financial support provided by banks in the development of the economy.
The RC urged the ‘wananchi’ , mostly farmers, to make use of the banks available in the region to access capital to enable them to add value to their farming activities.
On the other hand, Mr Paul said CRDB bank decided to open a new branch in Nanyumbu following the presence of many customers in need of the financial services.
“We (CRDB) bank decided to open the new branch here in Nanyumbu due to presence of customers and thus this new branch will serve as a deeper connection between the bank and customers at the time of seeking financial advice, open accounts among other services,” he said adding that before opening the new branch, the bank offered its services through mobile banking.
