Mwinyi’s drive for clean energy gets boost

ZANZIBAR: THE efforts by President Hussein Mwinyi to promote the use of clean energy for cooking in Zanzibar got boost on Monday as the Oryx Gas Tanzania Ltd (OGTL) heeded to his call to support the move.
Zanzibar Tourism and Heritage Minister Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga commended President Mwinyi for ensuring that women food vendors are supported with clean energy for cooking as part of efforts to empower them.

With this note, recently, President Mwinyi asked the OGTL to support the group by donating the cooking gas cylinders and stoves.
The company acted to the plea by distributing 1000 gas cylinders in Unguja and will in the next few days distribute the same number to women food vendors in Pemba.
“Let’s commend President Dr Mwinyi for coming up with this idea, but also asking the Oryx Gas company to support the initiatives. Today, we are witnessing the company distributing 1000 gas cylinders in Unguja before going to distribute the same in Pemba,” Mr Soraga stated when represented Dr Mwinyi at an event to distribute the gas cylinders.
Initially, Dr Mwinyi was scheduled to officiate the event. He said the Oryx Gas Company has been a great partner in energy sector in the Isles, especially in realising the agenda of using the alternative energy. “Oryx has been campaigning for the use of clean and safe energy and supporting President Mwinyi in his goals on making Zanzibar
