Mwinyi welcomes partnership with Imperial College London
ZANZIBAR : ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has welcomed collaboration with Imperial College London in the UK, as part of Zanzibar’s commitment to cooperate with international academic institutions to create learning opportunities for Zanzibaris.
Dr Mwinyi emphasised this during a meeting with a delegation from the university, led by Professor Ian Walmsley, at the State House in Dar es Salaam on Friday, noting that Zanzibar requires educational opportunities for its citizens and staff, including capacity building and other forms of training.
“We are pleased to meet and have discussions with the management of Imperial College London. We still need to equip our people with the necessary knowledge and skills, as skilled labour is crucial to achieving our development goals,” said Dr Mwinyi.
He highlighted trade and business, health and ICT (Information and Communication Technology) as key sectors requiring enhanced expertise. He expressed a desire to receive support from Imperial College London in these areas.
“Our universities, particularly the State University of Zanzibar (SUZA) and Imperial College can establish cooperation in various programs,” Dr Mwinyi said, stressing that Zanzibar is committed to strengthening ties with international academic institutions to create a workforce of skilled professionals across multiple fields.

He praised President Mwinyi for his strong leadership and for supporting the ongoing relationship between SUZA and Imperial College, promising to maintain the ties. This, he said, will allow students and other individuals from Zanzibar and Tanzania to pursue training opportunities in the UK.
