TANZANIA: President of the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar, Dr. Hussein Mwinyi, is set to join President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the launching ceremony of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) services on Thursday, August 1, 2024.
The inauguration event will feature a symbolic journey covering over 400 kilometers from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, showcasing the railway’s capabilities.
The SGR project, with a trip from Dar es Salaam to Dodoma, commenced a pretrial on July 25, carrying 900 passengers as part of the preparations for its official launch.
Passengers who experienced the maiden journey have lauded the service for its efficiency and safety, emphasizing the project’s potential to become the first choice for travelers.

The service is expected to reduce travel time between the major economic cities of Dar es Salaam, Morogoro, and Dodoma while boosting the country’s economy.
