ZANZIBAR : ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has praised the people of Zanzibar for their support, which has enabled his government to successfully implement the promises made during the 2020 election campaign and those outlined in the ruling CCM’s election manifesto.

Speaking on the 4th anniversary of his presidency, Dr Mwinyi expressed satisfaction in having fulfilled these promises to the approval of the Zanzibari people.

“You have every reason to celebrate the achievements we’ve gained under the eighth-phase government, especially in the improvement of social services,” he said when addressing the public during a ceremony organised by CCM’s Parent Wing in the Isles, he stated:

He emphasised that the contracts between the people and political parties are election manifestos and the CCM manifesto for 2020-2025 has been implemented commendably thus far. He highlighted successes in health, education and infrastructure, adding: “Our performance in implementing the party’s manifesto justifies this celebration.”

Dr Mwinyi also pointed to achievements in economic growth, infrastructure development (including roads), the empowerment of citizens, particularly women and youth in entrepreneurship, wage increases for public servants and the expansion of the Universal Pension Scheme (UPS) for the elderly.

He further underlined the importance of maintaining peace, unity and political stability, which have been essential to Zanzibar’s progress.

“CCM has every reason to be proud of this success and these are our returns to the people. We ask for their continued trust to serve them for another five years. There’s no doubt about the progress we’ve made,” he said.

Addressing criticism from some opponents, Dr Mwinyi urged the public to ignore detractors and instead encouraged CCM-Wazazi to motivate party members and the public to register for the upcoming elections.

“We must prepare now to secure votes with certainty. It’s your responsibility and that of all party organs, to ensure everyone is registered. Even for the opposition, if you value peace and development, come out in large numbers to support CCM candidates,” he added.

Dr Mwinyi expressed gratitude to the leadership of CCM-Wazazi for holding the conference to commend his leadership and his government’s achievements over the past four years.

At the event, Zanzibar’s Second Vice President and Central Committee Member, Mr Hemed Suleiman Abdulla, lauded Dr Mwinyi for bringing significant progress to all areas of Zanzibar, saying: “In Zanzibar, we have 50 constituencies, 111 wards and 588 shehia (the smallest governing areas). No area has been overlooked in development.”

Mr Abdulla also announced the government’s commitment to continue its work, unveiling 162 projects set for implementation over the next year and called on the people of Zanzibar and CCM members to continue supporting Dr Mwinyi.

CCM Deputy Secretary General for Zanzibar, Dr Mohammed Said Mohamed (Dimwa), expressed satisfaction with President Mwinyi’s accomplishments, in line with the party’s manifesto, noting that Article 135 of the 2020/2025 election manifesto emphasises economic growth, improved social services and good governance—all of which Dr Mwinyi has delivered.

“CCM is 100 per cent satisfied with the efforts made by the government under President Mwinyi and President Samia Suluhu Hassan,” he stated.

CCM’s Parent Wing National Chairman, Mr Fadhili Rajab Maganya, echoed the praise, stating: “We are pleased with Dr Mwinyi’s leadership and performance, which is why we organised this celebration in his honour.”

He assured that the party would work diligently to secure a strong victory in the 2025/2030 elections, supporting candidates for the Presidency, Parliament, Representatives and Councils.

Earlier, CCM’s Parent Wing General Secretary, Mr Ali Salum Hapi, explained that the conference was aimed at recognising Dr Mwinyi’s significant contributions to Zanzibar’s development across various sectors.
