Mwinyi invites investors to explore untapped opportunities
ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR is actively seeking increased investment to unlock its numerous untapped opportunities, President Hussein Ali Mwinyi announced during a meeting with a team of investors from Asian countries in the Isles on Wednesday.
President Mwinyi assured the investors that the Revolutionary Government of Zanzibar is committed to providing the necessary support as the Indian Ocean archipelago opens its doors to new ventures.
“You are warmly welcome as we continue to set up a favorable business climate. It is easy to set up a business. We have also improved our legislation,” Dr Mwinyi said as he mentioned some of the areas that need investment.
He highlighted opportunities in conference facilities, sports, health and concert tourism, encouraging investors to consider immediate implementation of their projects.
“The government is ready to cooperate,” he added.
The President also pointed out the significance of spice farming as a priority area for the government. “I encourage you to explore the spice sector to access the Asian market,” he advised.

Additionally, President Mwinyi expressed interest in the film production industry, noting India’s success in this area. He urged potential investors to consider training young filmmakers from Zanzibar and Tanzania while inviting renowned Indian artists to produce films on the islands.
Currently, Zanzibar is open to investors constructing high-end hotels, citing the planned “Taj Mahal Luxury Hotel” as an example.
He reassured investors that the government is organised and prepared to streamline processes to achieve this goal.
Speaking at the meeting, the Minister for Tourism and Heritage, Mr Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga said that the Ministry has already spoken with the team of the investors about promoting Zanzibar in the Asian continent and looking for a reliable market for products produced in the country.
The programme coordinator Mr Rajiv Desai who is also the General Manager of the ‘Swahili Safari Tourism Company’, said that his company has prepared a special strategy to connect investors from Dubai and India to invest in Zanzibar.
“Geographical location and the hospitality of the Zanzibari people make it the best area for investment,” Said Mr Desai.
During that the short reception at the State House for the investors from Asians continent, a magazine “BlitzIndia” was launched with the intention of promoting Zanzibar and Tanzania as a whole internationally in the fields of economy, development, tourism and culture.
