ZANZIBAR: ZANZIBAR President Dr Hussein Mwinyi has appointed Mr Sharif Ali Sharif, the long serving official of the Zanzibar Investment Promotion Authority (ZIPA), as the new Minister of State- President’s Office (Labour, Economy, and Investment), effective yesterday.
According to a press statemenet released by the Chief Secretary (CS) Engineer Ms Zena Ahmed Said, the new Minister is scheduled to take oath of office today at the Isles State House.
The statement said that the president’s appointment is backed by the Zanzibar constitution. Last week, Dr Mwinyi appointed Mr Sharif as a member of the House of Representatives after making a minor cabinet reshuffle, following the resignation of Mr Simai Mohamed Said as a Minister for Tourism and Heritage.
Dr Mwinyi appointed Mr Mudrik Ramadhan Soraga to fill the vacant post in the ministry of tourism and heritage. Prior to the appointment, Mr Saroga was the Minister for Labour, Economy and Investment.
Simai’s resignation also paved the way for President Mwinyi to appoint Mr Shaaban Ali Othman as the new Minister of the Blue Economy and Fisheries.
Prior to his new role, Othman was the Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Water, Energy, and Minerals. Mr Juma Makungu Juma was appointed as Deputy Minister of State in the President’s Office for Finance and Planning; Ms Zawadi Amour Nassor was appointed as the new Deputy Minister for Water, Energy, and Minerals.
The changes also included the appointment of Mr Ali Suleiman Mrembo as the Minister of State, Office of the President – State House, to fill the position left vacant after the president dropped Mr Jamal Kassim Ali.
President Mwinyi also appointed Ms Salha Mohamed Mwinjuma as Deputy Minister in the Ministry of Lands and Housing Development.
