Mwanza police arrest two in connection with counterfeit liquor
MWANZA: THE Mwanza Regional Police Force has arrested two suspects for allegedly manufacturing counterfeit alcoholic beverages branded as Konyagi, along with large quantities of a liquid believed to be an ingredient used in making fake Delight Flavour Konyagi.
The arrests were announced yesterday by Mwanza Regional Police Commander Wilbroad Mutafungwa during a press briefing in Mwanza City.
Commander Mutafungwa said the suspects were found with 1,318 fake Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) revenue stamps, two alcohol mixing barrels and several empty Konyagi bottles packed in seven sacks.

The operation took place last Thursday, at around 1:30 pm in Ihangiro Street, Nyakato Ward, Ilemela Municipality, Mwanza Region.
The suspects were identified as Johnson Felix John (26), an entrepreneur from Machinjioni, Mandu Ward and Chacha Geswa (28), a motorcycle rider from Bendera Tatu, Bugarika Ward.
Both are residents of Nyamagana District. Following the arrest, police conducted a search at the house where the counterfeit alcohol was being produced and seized all tools and materials used in the illegal operation.
