MUSTAFA MKULO 1946-2024: Tanzania’s former finance minister passes away

Dar es Salaam: Former Finance Minister Mustafa Mkulo passed away at Muhimbili National Hospital in Dar es Salaam on May 3rd, 2024, as confirmed in a statement issued by his family.

The statement expressed the family’s deep sadness at the loss of their beloved father, Mustafa Mkulo.

His funeral will be held at the family home in Mikocheni, with the program scheduled to begin at 10:00.

Who is Mustafa Mkulo?

Mustafa Mkulo, born on September 26, 1946, was a graduate of the University of London with an MBA degree.

He is most notably remembered for his management of the global economic and financial crisis of 2008/09, during which Tanzania fared better than most African countries south of the Sahara, as stated on LinkedIn.

Mkulo’s political career saw him appointed as Deputy Finance Minister during the fourth phase government, serving from January 2006 to January 2008.

He then held the position of Tanzania’s Finance Minister from February 2008 to May 2012.

Mkulo was elected Member of Parliament to represent the Kilosa constituency in Morogoro region in 2005, and he was re-elected for the same post in 2010 after serving his initial five-year tenure.

His contributions to Tanzania’s economic management and his dedication to public service leave a lasting legacy.
