Musoma Rural assured of clean water supply

MARA: THERE are high hopes in Musoma Rural as the contract for a water project worth over 4bn/- has been signed to improve clean water supply, according to the constituency’s Member of Parliament (MP), Professor Sospeter Muhongo.

Prof Muhongo stated that the signing ceremony took place recently at Kwikuba Village, involving the Rural Water Supply and Sanitation Agency (RUWASA) and the contractor, Otonde Construction and General Supplies Limited.

he project, which is expected to extract water from Lake Victoria, will benefit residents of Busambara Ward, including Kwikuba, Maneke, and Mwiringo villages, as well as Kiriba Ward, which includes Bwai Kumsoma, Bwai Kwitururu, and Kiriba villages.

Commenting on the project, a resident of Kwikuba Village, Ms. Mwajuma Chacha, praised the government and Musoma Rural legislator for bringing a water project to their village, stating that it will put an end to decades of water shortages.

“For a long time, women in our village have been struggling day and night to find water. This project is going to provide relief for us,” she said.

She further commended the government, under Dr Samia Suluhu Hassan, for allocating such a significant amount of funds for the project’s execution.

In another development, the Project Manager of Otonde Construction and General Supplies Limited, Mr Julius Milanzi, stated that their company will ensure value for money and meet the deadline outlined in the contract.

“Our company has extensive experience, and we will use that experience to expedite the execution of this project,” Mr Milanzi said.

Tanzania’s Third Five-Year Development Plan (FYDP III) includes a focus on improving water services across the country.

The government has outlined strategies and initiatives to enhance access to clean and safe water for all citizens.

Investments in water infrastructure, such as pipelines, water treatment plants, and distribution networks, are being prioritised to ensure reliable water supply to communities.

Also, efforts are being made to improve water quality and sanitation facilities to promote public health and wellbeing.

The government’s commitment to enhancing water services aligns with the overall goal of sustainable development and improving the quality of life for Tanzanians.
