Multibillion J.P. Magufuli Bridge project nears completion
MWANZA: The Kigongo-Busisi Bridge, a pivotal project spanning Lake Victoria, is nearing completion, with only two meters left to join its three-kilometer stretch.
The multibillion-project is expected to be fully operational by December 2024.
The Minister for Works, Innocent Bashungwa, confirmed this significant milestone during an inspection of the project’s progress in the Mwanza region on Tuesday.
Mr. Bashungwa said the bridge, which will connect the Usagara-Sengerema-Geita highway and key economic zones around Lake Victoria, is now 90.5 percent complete, with contractors still on site to finalize the remaining sections.
“Seeing only two meters left to complete is incredibly promising. We are confident the bridge will be fully joined by early October, ensuring we meet the deadline,” he stated.
He also praised the essential support of President Samia Suluhu Hassan, which has been crucial for the project’s progress.
