Mtumba issues 83m/- loans to special groups

DODOMA: SPECIAL groups composed of youth, women and people with disabilities in Mtumba Ward in Dodoma Region have received loans worth 83m/- being part of the government’s broader plan to empower women economically and improve their livelihoods.

Mtumba Community Development Officer, Mr Huruma Mwigune said recently during his visit to inspect development projects in the ward that the beneficiaries of the 10 per cent loans issued by the council have been able to sustain their lives and increase their income.

According to the officer, the loans were issued to some groups from 2021 to 2025 that met the criteria and have significantly impacted the lives of targeted people.

Among beneficiaries of the loans, she added, was Ngalawa Women’s Group which engaged in tailoring.

A member of the Ngalawa group, Monica Petro commended the government for uplifting women through the arrangement which has enabled them to become economically independent and improve their lives.

“These loans have really uplifted us significantly in running various activities, especially in our families, by generating income. Initially, we had small activities that we were supporting ourselves with in small ways,” said Ms Monica.

Meanwhile, Mtumba Ward Councillor, Edward Maboje said that various development projects have been implemented by the government over the past four years.

Mr Maboje noted that the government has made significant improvements to infrastructure, greatly enhancing transportation in the area.

“In Mtumba Ward, we faced serious challenges due to poor road conditions, particularly along Vikonje Street and the stretch from Mtumba Kibaoni to Mtumba Primary School,” he said.

He added: “This made it difficult for residents during the rainy season, as the roads became nearly impassable and people struggled to reach other areas.”
