Mpango joins Africa’s green push

ETHIOPIA: Tanzania’s Vice President, Dr Philip Mpango, has travelled to Addis Ababa, Ethiopia, to represent President Samia Suluhu Hassan at the Second Africa Heads of State and Government Summit on Climate Change, scheduled to take place from September 8 to 10, 2025.

He is accompanied by the Deputy Minister for Foreign Affairs and East African Cooperation, Cosato Chumi, the Permanent Secretary in the Vice President’s Office, Engineer Cyprian Luhemeja, and other officials from the Tanzanian Embassy in Ethiopia.

The Summit serves as a continental platform to shape and influence climate commitments, pledges, and outcomes. It aims to amplify Africa’s shared vision for climate action by advancing Africa-led solutions and exploring ways to finance them effectively.

Jointly championed by the African Union Commission (AUC) and the Government of Ethiopia, the summit underscores the urgency of mobilizing climate financing to address the devastating impacts of climate change, while promoting both adaptation and mitigation strategies in line with green development goals.

Recognizing the continent’s immense potential to offer global climate solutions, the Summit calls for a fair and equitable allocation of resources—especially for African nations that have contributed the least to climate change, yet suffer its consequences the most. The message is clear: Africa must not be left behind in the global climate discourse, as its solutions are critical not just for the region, but for the planet as a whole.
