Mpanda residents happy as 780m/- water project nears completion

KATAVI: OVER 2,25O residents in two villages of Mpanda District, Katavi region are lookig forward to the end of water woes ahead of the completion of 780m/- water project in the area.

The residents from Tambazi A and Tambazi B in Katumba Ward are anxiously counting days as they wait for their water taps to start pouring water.

The project is being executed by the Rural and Urban Water Supply and Sewerage Authority (RUWASA) as part of government efforts to improve water supply in the area.

A resident of Tambazi B village, Ms Veronica Karibu recounted to this paper how women trek long distance in pursuit of the precious commodity.

“Our mothers and daughters suspend their domestic chores only to look for water,” said Ms Karibu, a mother of three.

Across-section of citizens interviewed separately by this paper said the infrastructures will help them engage in other development activities instead of spending much of their time searching for water.

RUWASA District Project Supervisor in Mpanda, Engineer Juma Lukinda said the execution of the project took off November last year.

He said the project has reached 80 per cent. The project involve the construction of water tank with a capacity of handling 100,000 litres of the precious liquid.

Eng Lukinda added: “We thank the sixth phase government under President Samia Suluhu Hassan for the spirit to help us. Upon completion, the project will supply clean water to at least 2,250 residents in the two villages of Tambazi A and Tambazi B at Katumba Ward in Nsimbo Council.

“The infrastructure will help them engage in other development activities, instead of spending much of their time in search for water,” he added. Mpanda District Commissioner, Ms Jamila Yusuph advised residents to protect water infrastructures and shun vandalising them so that they can stay for many years.
