MOI sets medical camp in Mara for super specialist services

MUSOMA: A team of specialists from Muhimbili Orthopedic and Neurosurgery Institute (MOI) has arrived in Mara region to set up a medical camp for specialists and specialized services at the Mwalimu Nyerere Memorial Regional Referral Hospital in the region.
The camp, which also serves as a medical tourism mission, will treat patients with accidents, bones, brain, spine, and nerves from the Lake Zone regions and Western provinces of Kenya.
The move also aims to build the capacity of the hospital’s specialists to provide specialist and specialized services as part of the implementation of government directives to build the capacity of regional referral hospitals to reduce referrals to the MOI and bring these services closer to the people.
This was stated by the Director of Orthopedic Surgery at the MOI, Dr Anthony Assey, during a visit by a panel of experts from MOI when they visited the hospital to inspect the existing infrastructure at the hospital as part of preparations for the arrival of specialist doctors and nurses from MOI to provide services at the hospital.

‘’Our arrival is in implementation of Dr ’s instructions. The plan is to build the capacity of regional referral hospitals to provide specialist and specialist services for the treatment of accident injuries, intensive care (ICU), bones, brain, spine and nerves, as well as to bring MOI services closer to the citizens,” said Dr Assey

For his part, the Mara Regional Administrative Secretary, Gerald Kusaya, said that the arrival of experts from MOI will reduce the cost for the citizens of the Mara region to follow these services at MOI, Dar es Salaam, and will further enhance medical tourism as they serve many patients from Keny

In turn, the Mara Regional Chief Medical Officer, Dr Zabroni Masatu, said they expect the hospital to be larger through capacity building by the MOI and are requesting the MOI Management in the future to establish its branch in the Mara region.

Acting Chief Medical Officer, Dr Elias Godfrey, said they were eagerly awaiting the arrival and are ready to collaborate with MOI to further improve the provision of quality services to the citizens.
