MMI Steel Mills laud government’s business reforms

DAR ES SALAAM: MMI Integrated Steel Mills Ltd has commended the government’s efforts in creating a conducive business environment that has propelled trade and industrial growth.

The Company’s Chief Executive Officer, Mr Gurlochan Singh, emphasised the role of the Ministry of Industry and Trade and the Tanzania Revenue Authority (TRA) in supporting these developments.

“The enhanced business environment has made operations smoother for both local and international trade,” he remarked during the company’s 30th-anniversary celebration in Dar es Salaam, recently.

He reflected on past challenges, including difficulties at the port, which he confirmed have now been resolved. Mr Singh also attributed the recent surge in business activities to stable electricity and water supplies, which have enhanced productivity.

Motsun Group’s Chief Marketing Officer, Mr Erhard Mlyansi, highlighted the crucial role of customers and partners in MMI’s success.

“Today, we celebrate 30 years of MMI Steel’s achievements. We are proud to share this milestone with our valued dealers and international suppliers, who have been integral to our success,” he said.

Mr Mlyansi acknowledged the government as MMI’s largest client, accounting for 70 per cent of its sales hailing it for its responsiveness to challenges. However, he raised concerns about substandard imported products threatening the local industry.

“We urge stronger measures to protect against lowquality imports and safeguard the integrity of locally manufactured, high-quality products,” he emphasised. MMI Steel has been a key player in the country’s industrial development, expanding regionally with factories in Mozambique and Zambia.
