Mlandege sails into Mapinduzi semis

ZANZIBAR: MLANDEGE marched into the semi-finals of the 2024 Mapinduzi Cup after 3-2 post-match penalties win over KVZ at New Amaan Sports Complex in Zanzibar, on Sunday.

Mlandege who are defending champions converted their spot kicks to goals through Khor Banner, Emmanuel Pious, and Yussuf Suleiman where Abdallah Said and Abdallah Pina missed to score.

KVZ scored two of their five penalties through Halifa Hassan and Bashiru Ika, while Majid Khamis, Salim Khamis, and Salum Idrissa missed theirs.

Mlandege who are the reigning champions will face either Young Africans or APR in the semi-final.

The game started at a snail’s pace with minimal action on target but things heated up in the midway as Mlandege took control of the game.

Mlandege attempted to break the deadlock through Kiman Arbouini with a powerful volley but went wide.

The first half ended goalless and in the 77th minute, KVZ missed a glittering chance as Suleiman Mwalimu’s long-range shot went hitting the goalposts.

Though it was an open game with each team squandering scoring opportunities, the final whistle sounded to signal the end of the duel thereby attracting spot-kicks to separate the two sides.
