Mix results for Tanzania teams at WBLA Zone V Qualifiers

NAIROBI: TANZANIA’S representatives at the 2025 FIBA Women’s Basketball League Africa (WBLA) Zone V Qualifiers, Fox Divas and Don Bosco Lady Lioness, wrapped up their group-stage campaigns at the Nyayo National Stadium Gymnasium in Nairobi on Thursday posting mixed results against some of the region’s strongest opposition.
Fox Divas, from Mara region and Don Bosco Lady Lioness of Dar es Salaam displayed grit and determination throughout their fixtures in the nine-team tournament.
In Group A, Fox Divas delivered an impressive run, finishing third with a 2–2 record and six points.
Their two victories kept them in contention, but they fell short against group leaders APR of Rwanda (4–0, 8 pts) and Uganda’s KPA (3–1, 7 pts). Burundi’s Gladiators (1–3, 5 pts) and Uganda’s Stormers (0–4, 3 pts) rounded out the standings.
Group B posed similar challenges for Don Bosco Lioness, who battled hard despite, ending their preliminary round winless, placing fourth with a 0–3 record and three points.
Rwanda’s REG topped the group (3–0, 6 pts), followed by Les Hippos of Burundi (2–1, 5 pts) and Kenya’s Zetech University (1–2, 4 pts).
With the group phase completed, both Tanzanian sides turned their attention to classification fixtures.

Fox Divas returned to the court today for the 5th–6th place playoff against Zetech University in a matchup expected to be closely contested.
Lioness were in action yesterday in the 7th–8th place contest, seeking a strong finish against Burundi’s Gladiators as they closed their campaign.
