Ministry injects 900m/- to boost education for people with special needs

DODOMA: The Ministry of Education has handed over four vehicles worth 900.4 million/- to Education Quality Assurance Officers across the country, a move aimed at enabling them to monitor and strengthen the provision of education for people with special needs.
The vehicles were handed over today, January 5, 2026, by the Minister for Education, Science and Technology, Professor Adolf Mkenda, at the Ministry’s offices in Mtumba, Dodoma Region.
Additionally, the minister also handed over assistive devices for teachers with disabilities, with the intention of enabling them to deliver knowledge and skills to their students without barriers.

Speaking during the handover ceremony, Prof Mkenda urged parents and guardians of children with disabilities not to hide them at home, but instead take them to government offices or relevant officials so that they can be facilitated to access education, which is their basic right.
Elaborating, the minister noted that the government is ready to finance the education of children with disabilities in order to enable them to acquire skills that will help them in their lives.
Moreover, he assured citizens of the government’s decision to continue to improve teaching and learning environments to ensure inclusive education for all groups, regardless of whether one has a disability or not.
The minister further directed the Education Quality Assurance Officers nationwide to visit households, identify all children with disabilities, and ensure that they are enrolled in school to begin their studies.
Speaking earlier, the Commissioner for Education from the Ministry of Education, Science and Technology, Dr Lyabwene Mutahabwa, noted that in efforts to ensure education provided in the country equips learners with the required skills, the government has continued to improve teaching and learning environments, including the procurement of equipment and vehicles for teachers and ministry officials.
