Minister lists plans to resolve water woes in Dodoma

DODOMA: DEPUTY Minister for Water, Engineer Kundo Mathew has said that the government is implementing various short, medium and long-term projects that will ease water blues in Dodoma Region.

He made the commitment in the House on Thursday when responding to a supplementary question posed by Special Seats MP, Kunti Majala (CHADEMA), who wanted to know the government’s plans in putting up water projects that will end frequent water woes in the country’s capital, Dodoma, Bahi and Chemba districts.

Responding, Eng Mathew admitted that it is true that Dodoma is currently facing water challenges due to its current population viz-a-viz the litres of water that is currently being produced.

“The demand for water in Dodoma is now 144 million litres per day, that is why we are currently implementing various projects to solve a challenge of water scarcity,’’ he said.

In short-term measures, the deputy minister said, the government was implementing projects for drilling bore holes that will help in increasing litres of water in Dodoma.

In mid-term measures, the government is implementing several projects including the construction of a 32-metre high Farkwa Dam in Chemba District and a major Lake Victoria project which seeks to tap water from the lake to Dodoma through Singida Region.

Chemba Legislator, Mohamed Lujuo (CCM) wanted to know when the government will dish out 300m/- to implement the Igunga village water project seeking to increase water coverage from the Ntomoko water source.

Responding, the deputy minister said that currently, the project was at the bidding stage to get the contractor and that the construction stage would kick off in June 2025.
