‘Mentality, Discipline thrills Simba coach’

Simba coach Fadlu Davids

TANZANIA: Simba coach Fadlu Davids said he is pleased with the mentality and discipline of his players as they put things right ahead of the action-packed 2024/25 season.

He made the remarks after guiding his side to a 2-1 success against Telecom Egypt SC, a second-division league side based in Cairo in a friendly match played in Ismailia, Egypt at Mercure Stadium over the weekend where the Reds have pitched their pre-season training camp.

They roared from behind to win the match thanks to Valentino Mashaka and substitute Ladack Chasambi, who contributed one goal each for their team in the 63rd and 88th minutes of the game after being trailing behind by a 1-0 until the breather.

“So far, I can say we are doing well in terms of improving the mentality and discipline of the players which is very important in a team.
“Throughout the match, I cherished the mentality aspect of my players because though we were down by one goal in the first half, they never gave up until we found the equaliser and the winning goal.

“One thing that disappointed me is that we did not convert from many chances we created but the good thing is that we can create many scoring opportunities which is a positive thing,” he said.

He added: “In mentality, we are doing much better because though we missed chances, we kept going, we kept making runs to the near post and putting numbers in the box.

“What we want to implement in the team is gradually taking shape and I am pleased with that…I have told them (players) that even though they miss a hundred chances in a game, they should never give up.”

According to him, they expect to return home from Egypt today to proceed with other preparations ahead of Simba Day (August 3rd) and a traditional derby Community Shield match against Young Africans on August 8th.

However, yesterday evening Simba were expected to play their last trial game in Egypt against Saudia Arabia side, Al Adalah FC which plays in the Saudi First Division League.

Recently, Simba through their Media and Communication Manager Ahmed Ally confirmed that on Simba Day, they will play against APR of Rwanda to climax the day.

“Before the game, a lot of activities will take place including parading the entire team that will battle for us throughout the next season and this is a great opportunity for our members to see their players and technical bench.
“As usual, we expect to see the 60,000-capacity stadium fully packed on the day to make it more memorable than ever before,” Ally said.
