Mbeya Basketball League enters playoff stage

MBEYA: THE ultimate basketball showdown is set to take centre stage this weekend as the Mbeya Basketball League (MBL) enters the highly anticipated semifinal playoff phase.
The battle for regional glory, pride and the coveted Most Valuable Player (MVP) crown begins on Saturday, promising intense matchups as the top teams clash for a spot in the finals of the 2025 season.
Joginda Msai, the General Secretary of the Mbeya Regional Basketball Association (MRBA) and Executive Director of the MBL, confirmed that all preparations are in full swing ahead of the playoff weekend.
“Legends will rise, rivalries will be reignited and only the strongest will survive the playoff heat,” said Msai.
He added that the Catholic Youth Centre in Mbeya City is fully prepared to host the crucial matches. Mbeya Flames will open their playoff campaign against VETA Wamoja on Saturday from 5:30 pm, following the second match of the day between Tiger Rangers and the defending champions, Iyunga Crescents, scheduled for 4:30 pm.

On Sunday, the action continues as Iyunga Crescents take on Tiger Rangers once again in a rematch starting at 4:30 pm, followed by VETA Wamoja facing off against Mbeya Flames in another rematch game of the weekend at 5:30 pm.
The 2025 MBL season, which kicked off in May, features seven men’s teams: Iyunga Crescents (2024 champions), Mbeya Flames, Mbalizi Street, Tiger Rangers, VETA Wamoja, Outsiders and Mbeya University of Science and Technology (MUST).
In the women’s category, three teams are competing for the title: Mbeya Flames Queens, Tiger Queens and Songwe Queens
