Mayele shrugs off injury threat
Young Africans said their lethal striker Fiston Mayele is in a good shape despite limping off the pitch in the second half during their 4-1 win over Singida Big Stars at Benjamin Mkapa Stadium in Dar es Salaam on Thursday.
The DR Congo import, who netted his first hat-trick of the campaign on the day, was called to the bench midway in the last half seemingly limping off and was replaced by youngster Clement Mzize.
However, the club’s Media and Communication Manager Ally Kamwe said he is well and will be part of the team’s brigade dispatching for their away match with Dodoma Jiji at Liti Stadium in Singida on Tuesday.
“The good news to Yanga fraternity is that Mayele is 100 per cent fit despite picking an injury in the previous game and he is progressing well with training sessions before our next game versus Dodoma Jiji,” he said.
He then revealed that the squad is set to depart today aboard Dodoma flight and upon reaching in the capital city, they will travel by road to Singida ready for the tense encounter.
“We are thankful with the massive victory we got in the past match and this gives us momentum to continue working hard in ensuring that we bag maximum points from each game we come across on the way,” he said.
The Jangwani Street giants are looking to stamp a 48-match unbeaten run if they excel to get out unscratched on Tuesday as they believe that they have a capable squad fit to achieve remarkable achievement.
On his part, Dodoma Jiji Assistant Coach Kassim Liogope said they are also preparing well for Tuesday’s match saying it will be a difficult game to either side as each would like to pocket essential three points.
“We are aware that they are defending champions and are yet to concede defeat in the league but that does not scare us… we are preparing a good game plan which will help us to get positive results on the day,” he said.
He then called on Dodoma Jiji fans to support the team at Liti Stadium by cheering the team throughout the 90 minutes and to boost the morale of players.
They managed to grab a 2-1 victory against KMC in their previous match at Uhuru Stadium in the city which enabled them to claim nine points in eleven matches as they still struggle to get out of the relegation zone.
Dodoma Jiji shifted to Singida arena to pave way for renovation works at their Jamhuri Stadium after it was suspended by the Licensing Committee of the Tanzania Premier League Board (TPLB).
