DODOMA: PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has said that the sixthphase government, over the course of four years, has successfully continued to implement its policy of connecting regional headquarters across the country with tarmac roads.
Briefing members of the ruling party Chama Cha Mapinduzi (CCM) in Dodoma yesterday on the progress of the 2020-2025 Election Manifesto implementation he said the government has constructed 2,131 kilometres of regional and district tarmac roads, expanding the country’s road network from 13,235.1 kilometres to 15,366.36 kilometres.
He provided details on several completed road projects, including the Kiluvya – Mpiji Road in Dar es Salaam and Itoni – Ludewa – Manda Road, Lusitu – Mawengi Road (50 km), Njombe – Makete – Isyonje Road and Moronga – Makete Road (53.5 km) all in Njombe Region.
Other completed projects include the Nyamuswa – Bunda – Kisorya Road, Nyamuswa – Bunda – Bulamba Road (56.4 km) in Mara Region, Loliondo – Mto wa Mbu Road, Waso – Sale Road (50 km), and the eight-lane Kimara – Kibaha Road (19.2 km).

He said the government has constructed 12,876 kilometres of gravel district roads, increasing the country’s gravel road network from 29,183.17 kilometres to 42,059.17 kilometres.
On the construction of bridges, Mr Majaliwa mentioned the completion of several major bridges, including Kitengule Bridge in Kagera Region, Wami Bridge in the Coast Region, Msingi Bridge in Singida, Tanzanite Bridge in Dar es Salaam, Kiyegeya Bridge in Morogoro, Berega Bridge in Kilosa, Gerezani Bridge in Dar es Salaam, Mpwapwa Bridge in Dodoma and Ruhuhu Bridge in Ruvuma.
Notably, the Chang’ombe Flyover in Dar es Salaam has been completed, while the Kigongo – Busisi Bridge in Mwanza is 94.4 per cent complete.
Mr Majaliwa also announced the commencement of phase three of the Bus Rapid Transit (BRT) infrastructure project in Dar es Salaam, following the completion of phase two, which extended to Mbagala Road. In another development, he highlighted the ongoing progress of the Standard Gauge Railway (SGR) project.
He said that the Dar es Salaam-Makutupora section of the SGR, spanning 722 kilometre, was completed and transport services for passengers travelling from Dar es Salaam to Morogoro and Dodoma officially began in June 2024.
“Since the official inauguration of SGR services in August 2024, over 1.2 million passengers have travelled on the electric trains, reducing travel times and boosting business and economic operations,” Mr Majaliwa said.
He also noted that the SGR has contributed 30bn/- in revenue to the government. The SGR project continues to progress well, with the Mwanza – Isaka section (341 km) at 60.82 per cent completion, he said.
Other sections, including Makutupora – Tabora (368 km), have reached 14.53 per cent completion, Tabora – Isaka (165 km) is at 6.21 per cent and Tabora – Kigoma (506 km) has reached 6.58 per cent. The two-day CCM Extraordinary General Meeting began on Saturday and concluded yesterday.
