KATAVI: THE Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign is set to commence tomorrow in Katavi Region.
The event is expected to be held at Kashaulili grounds in Kashaulili Ward, Mpanda Municipality, with plans to extend legal aid services to prisoners and remandees during visits to local prisons.
The announcement was made yesterday in Mpanda Municipality by State Attorney Innocent Magesa from the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs.
The campaign aims to enhance access to justice for communities and marginalised individuals. It also aligns with President Samia’s vision of promoting equity and justice across the nation.
“The campaign aims to ensure that as many citizens as possible benefit from the legal aid offered by the team of legal aid providers,” he added.
He further said that the Ministry of Constitution and Legal Affairs views the campaign as a shared goal with all stakeholders.

He further said that during the campaign a team of legal aid providers will provide legal assistance to citizens, helping them understand their rights and obligations. Mr Magesa pointed out that many citizens are involved in legal disputes but lack the financial means to hire lawyers.
“During the campaign the team of legal aid providers will ensure that people have access to legal representation without financial barriers. “Citizens with ongoing court cases will now be in a position to receive legal representation, eliminating any doubts about their access to justice,” he noted.
He said the legal aid services will be offered free of charge during the campaign.
“During the campaign, the team of legal aid providers will offer legal advice, prepare legal documents needed in courts and also provide education to various groups including students, women and other groups,” he said.
He added that: “the team will also educate them on various issues, but will also listen to individual disputes, disputes related to land, inheritance, marriage, child care among others,” he said.
In her New Year’s speech, President Samia Suluhu Hassan also expressed the government’s commitment to amending laws to improve access to legal aid, particularly for the poor, through the Mama Samia Legal Aid Campaign.
