Makoba stresses TSN key role in elections coverage
DAR ES SALAAM: CHIEF Government Spokesperson, Thobias Makoba, underscored the pivotal role of Tanzania Standard (Newspapers) Limited (TSN) in conducting extensive civic education to facilitate informed decision-making ahead of the upcoming elections.
Mr Makoba, who also serves as Director of Tanzania Information Services, MAELEZO, made these remarks during his visit to the TSN headquarters in Dar es Salaam on Tuesday.
TSN publishes government-owned newspapers such as the Daily News, HabariLEO, and Daily News Digital. During his midday arrival, he met with the institution’s management to familiarize himself with TSN’s operations.
His discussion with the management primarily focused on the upcoming local government elections this year and the general election next year.
He also highlighted the ongoing preparations for the National Development Vision 2050, stressing their significance to the country’s social, economic, and political development.
Mr Makoba urged the state-owned media house to ensure comprehensive coverage of the preparations for the 2050 Development Vision, inaugurated by President Samia Suluhu Hassan in December 2023, and to reflect extensively on the implementation of the 2025 Development Vision, nearing its conclusion.
“These are pivotal national events, and it is our responsibility to inform the public and provide them with the government’s perspective,” Mr. Makoba stated.

Emphasizing the importance of effective cooperation between government information services and TSN, Mr. Makoba expressed his desire for the government media house to proactively report on government developments rather than relying on other media outlets.
TSN’s Acting Managing Director, Asha Dachi, guided Mr Makoba through the company’s operations and other pertinent issues during his visit. He also toured newsrooms of Daily News and Habari Leo newspapers and inspected the ongoing construction of a stateof-the-art multipurpose printing plant.
