Majaliwa: CHAN, AFCON preparations on track

DODOMA – PRIME Minister Kassim Majaliwa has confirmed that the government is on track to complete essential preparations and infrastructure upgrades ahead of the Africa Nations Championship (CHAN) and the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) tournaments.

Speaking at the Bunge Bonanza sports festival in Dodoma, Majaliwa stated: “Tanzania is ready to host these tournaments. We are focused on ensuring that all stadiums and related infrastructure meet the necessary standards.”

He noted that inspections of several stadiums, including those on Tanzania Mainland and in Zanzibar, have proven a successful work done. Highlighting the economic benefits of hosting the events, Majaliwa urged Tanzanians to seize the opportunities presented by increased tourism, business ventures and job creation.

“This is a significant chance for our nation and we must position ourselves to gain from it,” he noted. The Tanzania Football Federation (TFF) President Wallace Karia, echoed the Prime Minister’s sentiments, calling CHAN and AFCON a milestone for Tanzanian football. “These tournaments allow us to showcase our talent and hospitality to the world.

Our unity and efforts will be essential to make these events unforgettable,” Karia stated. The CHAN tournament is scheduled for August this year, followed by the joint hosting of AFCON 2027 by Tanzania, Kenya and Uganda.

Prime Minister Majaliwa assured that standards will be upheld in organising both tournaments.

Additionally, Majaliwa commended Parliament Speaker Tulia Ackson for organising the successful sport event, which encouraged MPs and sports stakeholders to engage in various athletic activities, promoting health and well-being among participants.
