Mainland Premier League resumes tomorrow

MBEYA: AFTER a long pause to pave way for the FIFA Series and CAF Interclub Games, shoulder-to-shoulder action in the Mainland Premier League resumes tomorrow with two interesting fixtures.

Tanzania Prisons will host KMC at Sokoine Stadium in Mbeya with each side curious to annex maximum points as the season slowly reaches its climax.

Both teams have grabbed 28 points from 21 matches played, with Tanzania Prisons occupying the fifth slot while KMC is sixth on the ladder, something that makes it a thrilling encounter to watch.

Another hot clash will see Mashujaa welcoming Coastal Union at Lake Tanganyika Stadium in Kigoma, with three points hanging by a thread. From 21 games, Mashujaa have collected 21 points, equivalent to one point per match, and currently they sit at 12th place on the ladder, after winning five matches, drawing six, and losing 10 fixtures in the process.

Their opponents Coastal Union are fourth on the table, with 30 points in the bag from 21 encounters and have already vowed to end the season in the top four. On Saturday, four fixtures will colour the day with the epic one witnessing Ihefu hosting Simba at Liti Stadium in Singida.

The football fraternity is anxious to see how Simba will react after being knocked out of the Federation Cup by 5-6 on post-match spot-kicks by Mashujaa, a result that prevented them from reaching the quarter-finals of the competition.

So far, the Reds are third on the log with 45 points from 19 matches, after winning 14 games, drawing three and succumbing to 2 defeats while Ihefu are 11th on the ladder with 23 points from 21 games.

Another game on the day will witness Geita Gold hosting bottom placed Mtibwa Sugar at Nyankumbu Stadium in Geita whereas Tabora United face JKT Tanzania at Ali Hassan Mwinyi Stadium in Tabora.

Similarly, Kagera Sugar will be at their turf- Kaitaba Stadium to lock horns against Dodoma Jiji in a seemingly competitive game, as only one point separates the duo. Kagera Sugar is eighth courtesy of 24 points from 21 matches, whereas Dodoma Jiji accommodate 10th slot with 23 points in the bag from 20 fixtures.

On Sunday, two matches complete the season’s round of 22 as Singida Fountain Gate welcome defending champions Young Africans at CCM Kirumba Stadium in Mwanza.

The hosts currently occupy seventh place with 24 points from 21 encounters, while Yanga remain at the summit of the table, thanks to 52 points in 20 outings.

The last game on the day will unfold at Majaliwa Stadium in Lindi where ninth occupants Namungo will interface third placed Azam in another thrilling premier league battle.
