Madina wins Zambia Open Golf title
TANZANIA: MADINA Iddi of Tanzania secured First Zambia Ladies’ Amateurs Open Golf Strokeplay Championship over the weekend.
She clinched her first Zambia Ladies’ Amateurs Open Golf Strokeplay championship after dominating the annual three-day, 54-hole World Amateur Golf Ranking (WAGR) event held at the par 73 Lusaka Golf Club course.
Competing against over 100 golfers from Zimbabwe, Uganda, Malawi, Tanzania, Kenya and host Zambia, Madina exhibited consistent control throughout the tournament.
She battled the cold weather in Lusaka to post an aggregate score of 234 (78, 80, 76), capturing another international title outside Tanzania.
Madina started strong with a 78 in the opening round on Friday and followed it with an 80 on Saturday, establishing a commanding lead heading into the final day.
Her impressive final round of 76 strokes secured her victory in the 2024 Zambia Ladies Open.

Lorna Mwenda of Zambia claimed third place with 256 (89, 82, 85), followed closely by Zambian players Anniel Nsama (256) and Esther Wemba (258), who finished fourth and fifth respectively.
Tanzania was represented by four golfers, including Madina and Aalaa Somji from Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC), as well as Ayne Magombe and Yasmin Chali from Dar es Salaam Gymkhana Club (DGC).
Aalaa and Ayne performed admirably, securing ninth and tenth places respectively with aggregate scores of 271 and 272. Reflecting on her victory, Madina expressed gratitude to her fellow golfers and supporters.
“This victory belongs to all of us. Your prayers and encouragement have contributed to this success. Let’s continue to support each other and strive for more victories,” she said.
Queen Siraki, President of the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU), congratulated Madina on her remarkable win.
“Congratulations Madina! Tanzania is proud of you. Your victory sets a high standard for upcoming tournaments and showcases our national pride.”
Madina’s triumph in Zambia adds another major trophy to her collection and strengthens her position in the World Amateur Golf Rankings (WAGR), following her wins at the Ghana Open and Kenyan Ladies Open Amateur Stroke play tournaments last year.
