MOROGORO: PREPARATION is in top gear for the Lina Professional Golfer’s (PG) Tour Pro-Am second edition to take Morogoro Gymkhana Club by storm this month.
The Golf Tournament that among others is organised to honour the late Lina Nkya is set to tee off from April 11-14 this year in Morogoro.
After the successful first edition ended at TPC Moshi, in Kilimanjaro region last month, the event to commemorate the former national ladies’ team member, Lina, now it is Morogoro’s turn.
The Lina PG Tour has been organised by the Said Nkya family in collaboration with the Tanzania Ladies Golf Union (TLGU) to honour the player who had a great contribution to the team and TLGU.
It is also organised to give golfers a platform to showcase their skills, improve their standards ready to compete in major competitions, and at the same time earn hefty cash prize money to improve their life.
Lina was one of the players who successfully flew high the national flag, as one of TLGU’s top officials in 2011 helping the national team bring honour when they won the East and Central All Africa Challenge Trophy title in the competition held in Dar es Salaam.
TLGU Vice-President, Ayne Magombe, said in Dar es Salaam yesterday that the competition is being organised in different regions, and that all that is to continue honouring the player by rediscovered talents.
“I hope to see the great participation in Morogoro as it was in Moshi; we got a good response, and we appreciate what Lina did during her life, she was very fond of this game,” she said.
Lina’s husband, Said Nkya, said that the reason for going around doing golf tourism is because his wife loved the game and had helped so many people and they want to continue where she left off by helping others excel in the game.
He said that as they did in Moshi by giving good prizes, they will continue to those who will do well in all the regions they will go to and he encouraged various players to come forward in big numbers and register for the same.
