Lembris, Isanzu up as 24 sail on Lina PG Tour

DAR ES SALAAM: LINA PG Tour’s favourites; Ally Isanzu, Nuru Mollel and Isiaka Daudi are among the top golfers who qualified for the final 36-hole showdown of the Lina Professional Golfers (PG) Tour Pro-Am tournament ahead of its tee-off this morning at Arusha Gymkhana Club (AGC) course in Arusha.

Until the end of the second day’s competition at the same venue, only 24 golfers managed to cut, according to the Lina PG Tour’s Director, Yasmin Chali.

“These are the best players of the two rounds staged on Thursday and Friday and all 24 are now eligible to play in the remaining 36 holes,” she said.

Mollel, Hassan Kadio, Fadhil Nkya, Salum Dilunga and Angel Eaton made it to the top-twelve berth.

Eaton, the only lady pro in the tournament is a surprise package of the ongoing showdown of the tour’s third round while Elisante Lembris takes the honour in the men’s category.

Eaton had a brilliant start to the third edition of the Lina PG Tour when she grossed 78 strokes.

That was vital for her ambition to sail through and eventually help to make a cut despite returning 88 grosses on yesterday’s second day.

Lembris, who carded Day One’s best score of 76, added two over par 74 strokes yesterday to also easily claim a position in the list of the top 12 finishers and that makes him among the title’s favourites at the end of the final 36-hole showdown.

It has been always Isanzu ahead of the rest in the amateur class after a sound start on Day One with the glittering one over 73 strokes, before returning 79 yesterday to lead the elite amateur board aggregate of 8+ after two rounds.

Chasing him at far are G. Chada 9+, Jay Nathwani 10+, Aliabass Kermalli 16+ and Isiaka Daudi 19+.

Lina PG Tour is a series of Professional and Elite Amateur golfers’ showdowns to be staged on five different golf courses countrywide.

Lina Nkya family has established the Lina Nkya Professional Golf Tour in Tanzania to commemorate the life of Lina Said Nkya, a pioneer and trendsetter in the sport.

She was among the first female golfers in Tanzania and the pillar head of Tanzania’s lady golfers’ success in regional and global level tournaments.
