KILIMANJARO: THE Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) has reaffirmed its commitment to expand the scope of transportation sector to ensure it benefits individuals and contributes to the nation’s economic growth.
This was stated on Tuesday by the authority’s Director General, CPA HAbibu Suluo at the ceremony of issuing the licensing agent certificate to Kilimanjaro Bajaji and Bodaboda Savings and Credit Cooperative Society Limited (KIBABOT SACCOS Limited), an event which took place in Kilimanjaro Region.
KIBABOT SACCOS Limited has now become LATRA’s official agent for issuing licenses for two-wheeled motorcycles (Boda-boda) and three-wheeled motorcycles.
“The determination of the government is to ensure transportation sector benefits individuals and contributes to the nation’s economic growth.. That’s why the authority continues creating a friendly climate for small entrepreneurs such as auto rickshaws and motorcycle riders to prosper,” LATRA boss stressed.
Adding: “This will enable them to engage in economic and social activities for their own development, their families, their communities, and for the overall progress of the nation.”
CPA Suluo said the authority has issued the agent certificate to the SACCOS under regulation three (3) of the Land Transport Regulatory Authority (Public Service. Vehicles), Regulations of 2020, as amended in 2023.
He added that the regulation grants the LATRA the mandate to use Agents to issue and renew licenses, or perform other functions as deemed appropriate by the LATRA.
