LATRA allows bus owners to apply for short-term licences for the festive season

DAR ES SALAAM: The Land Transport Regulatory Authority (LATRA) has announced an opportunity for bus owners to apply for short-term licenses to increase passenger transport services on high-demand routes during the festive season.
According to a statement released today, December 4, 2025, to the media by the Authority’s Head of Public Relations and Communications, Salum Pazzy, the licenses began being issued from December 3.
He stated that the licenses are available for buses with a passenger capacity of at least 40 or for buses holding a special group bus license.

Furthermore, he explained that the buses must be connected to the Vehicle Tracking System (VTS), have valid insurance, possess a police-issued Vehicle Inspection Report (VIR), and hold a valid LATRA license.
Other requirements include that the driver must have a registered identification button (i-button) recognized by LATRA and linked to the online ticketing system.
